Bo Nix Reflects on Rookie Debut, Eyes Improvement for Broncos
Bo Nix, Broncos starting quarterback, reflects on his rookie debut despite the loss to Seattle. With key learning moments and scoring drives, Nix is optimistic about a better performance against the Steelers.
Bo Nix Finds Positives in Broncos’ Loss, Aims to Improve in Week 2
Bo Nix, the Denver Broncos’ rookie quarterback, is focusing on the positives after a challenging NFL debut. Despite the team’s 26-20 loss to Seattle in Week 1, Nix is determined to build on the good moments, learning from the mistakes in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Steelers.
The stats may not have been ideal—Nix threw two interceptions and only managed 138 yards on 42 attempts—but the rookie refuses to dwell on the negatives. Instead, he’s focused on what went right and how he can use those lessons to improve moving forward.
“It was a great game of learning,” Nix said optimistically after Wednesday’s practice. “The film was positive. When you go back, you see there were opportunities, and we just have to capitalize in a few more areas.”

Highlights Amidst the Struggles
Nix’s performance wasn’t entirely without its bright spots. He led two scoring drives that showed glimpses of his potential. In the final seconds of the second quarter, Nix connected with wide receiver Josh Reynolds on a 25-yard back-shoulder pass, setting up a 45-yard field goal by kicker Wil Lutz.
Later, with the Broncos desperate for points in the fourth quarter, Nix orchestrated a seven-play, 54-yard drive. This drive culminated in a 4-yard touchdown run by Nix himself after a 10-yard pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton, cutting Seattle’s lead to 26-20 with just over two minutes left in the game.
“Those moments were critical in the game,” Nix said. “They provided points and big opportunities. Our two-minute drives turned into 10 points, and we just need to find more ways to do that throughout the game.”
Teammates and Coaches Show Support
Courtland Sutton praised Nix’s composure, saying, “Bo is a student of the game. He has things he’ll want to improve on, but there’s a lot of hope and promise moving forward.” Sutton emphasized that Nix handled the intensity of the game well, especially for a rookie in a hostile environment.
Head coach Sean Payton also expressed confidence in Nix’s debut, particularly from an operational standpoint. Payton noted that the offense ran smoothly, and Nix didn’t let the crowd noise throw him off his game.
Nix himself wasn’t surprised by the challenges of his debut, saying the offense executed well despite the hostile environment. “We just have to be louder on the cadence, but other than that, guys lined up correctly, and we didn’t have mental errors. On the road like that, that’ll save you a lot of extra yards.”
Looking Ahead
With his first NFL game behind him, Nix is focused on building on the positive aspects of his performance. As the Broncos prepare to face the Steelers, Nix hopes to capitalize on the opportunities missed in Week 1 and continue growing as the team’s starting quarterback.
There may be more challenges ahead, but with his confidence, composure, and determination, Bo Nix is ready to prove himself in the weeks to come.
