Coi Leray has publicly announced her decision to cut ties with her father, Benzino, in response to his recent comments during a podcast interview. Leray took to Twitter to express her feelings, stating,
“I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on. I haven’t spoken to him in over a year and I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on. I don’t respect his decisions and I really want nothing to do with him please dont even think of me when you see him.”
She continued by emphasizing that sharing DNA and blood does not automatically make them family, highlighting the importance of loyalty, boundaries, respect, teaching, guidance, love, patience, and encouragement in defining family. Leray expressed her anticipation for the day she can have a child of her own, whom she can love unconditionally.
This public declaration from Leray follows controversial comments made by Benzino on the We in Miami Podcast, where he questioned the severity of R. Kelly’s prison sentence for sex crimes against minors and advocated for the singer to be given a second chance.
The strained relationship between Coi Leray and Benzino has been apparent for some time, especially since Leray’s rise to fame. In 2022, Leray accused Benzino of threatening her and her mother due to her comments about his financial situation.
Their differences were further highlighted when Leray defended Eminem against Benzino’s criticism of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for inducting the rapper.
Despite a brief moment of apparent reconciliation in September, their relationship deteriorated again when Leray suggested that Benzino was envious of her success during an interview in November. Leray has recently criticized Benzino for causing unnecessary drama in their relationship.
