The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the gunman in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally. Investigation into his motive continues.
Bollywood Fever: Authorities have identified the shooter who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation named 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the individual who opened fire from a rooftop near Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, PA.
While the FBI provided no additional information about Crooks or his motive, they confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
According to the New York Times, Crooks did not have a criminal record in Pennsylvania, where he was raised in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bethel Park.

Voting records show that Crooks was a registered Republican. However, other documentation revealed he had donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project (PTP), which collaborates with the Democratic political action committee ActBlue to encourage liberal voter turnout.
In 2022, Crooks graduated from Bethel Park High School, among 1,400 students. During the ceremony, he was seen walking across the stage in a black gown and spectacles to receive his diploma.
That same year, Crooks received a $500 “star award” from the National Math and Science Initiative, as reported by the Tribune-Review, a newspaper in western PA.
Two years later, Crooks was fatally shot by Secret Service agents while attempting to assassinate Trump at the rally. Trump was delivering his speech to a packed crowd when Crooks fired several shots from the rooftop.
Video footage shows Trump being hit and reacting by quickly grabbing his injured right ear before collapsing on the stage. Secret Service agents immediately covered Trump with their bodies, while two other individuals were also shot, resulting in one fatality.
Following the shooting, Trump was escorted by his security detail to a waiting vehicle and transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released a few hours later.
Trump later issued a statement thanking law enforcement and expressing condolences to the families of the bystander who was killed and the other person seriously injured at the rally.
