Erik ten Hag calls on Manchester United to turn their frustration from the loss to Tottenham into motivation for the Europa League match against Porto, as Mason Mount and Luke Shaw face injury setbacks.
BollywoodFever: Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has urged his players to use their frustration from Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur as fuel to secure a victory against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday. The loss, which occurred at Old Trafford, has left the team’s morale low, with Ten Hag acknowledging that the squad’s mood “could have been more positive.”
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Ten Hag expressed the importance of channeling their anger into a positive outcome. “We are mad, mad with ourselves, especially when you lose a game like Sunday… but you have to deal with it. From the madness, we have to get motivation,” he said. “Always, when we are not winning, we are disappointed and mad with ourselves.”
Manchester United currently sits 13th in the Premier League table, and after a 1-1 draw with Dutch side Twente Enschede in their first Europa League match, the pressure has increased on Ten Hag. He admitted that job speculation is inevitable at a club with such high expectations. This club wants to be back on top, and it’s a long-term target. We evaluate and review the process every day,” he explained. “Everyone has to take responsibility, and that starts with me as the manager.”
Ten Hag emphasized the need for leadership on the pitch, as United prepares to face a highly motivated Porto team. “Every game for us is important, and every opponent is 100% motivated. We have to be ready to compete and fight with them,” he added.
Injury concerns continue to plague the squad, with midfielder Mason Mount missing the trip to Porto due to two injury issues. Defender Luke Shaw is expected to return to action after the October international break.
