Natalie Portman Expresses Concerns Over Women’s Physical Safety in the Workplace
Bollywoodfever, March 14: Natalie Portman has voiced concerns regarding the “physical safety” of women in the workplace.
At age 42, the actress was among the signatories of a prominent letter to The New York Times, advocating for the cessation of sexual misconduct in the workplace, aligning with celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon and Eva Longoria.
Despite the #MeToo movement’s emergence seven years ago, Portman questions the extent of progress, recognizing the initiation of discussions on the matter.

In a conversation with Marie Claire Australia, Portman, following her finalized divorce from Benjamin Millepied, reflected: “I wish I could say that it was just [about] the danger to women and the ability for women to be in the workplace without having to worry about their physical safety. Unfortunately, it’s not the case, but the initiation of conversation and awareness hopefully marks an improvement in conditions. However, the battle is far from won; it remains a persistent struggle,” she conveyed to the publication.
Nonetheless, the “Black Swan” actress, now a co-owner of the Angel FC women’s soccer team in Los Angeles with celebrities like America Ferrera and Jessica Chastain, remains optimistic for the future of women in the film industry. This optimism is partly due to the success of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” which amassed nearly $1.5 billion at the box office.

Highlighting progress, Portman stated, “The conversation is ongoing. The monumental success of ‘Barbie’ signifies a pivotal moment, demonstrating the potential for financial success under female direction and casting, which could pave the way for more female-driven projects.”
Following her divorce, Portman and Millepied are focused on amicably co-parenting their children, Aleph, 12, and Amalia, 7. A close associate of Portman shared with People magazine that her primary concern has been to ensure a smooth transition for her children during this period.
“She and Ben are devoted to being exceptional co-parents. Their children’s well-being is their utmost priority,” the source emphasized.
The source also noted that Portman faced challenges initially post-split but found strength through support from friends, now embracing joy in her life through family, friends, and work.

Portman signed the notable letter to The New York Times in 2023, calling for an end to workplace sexual misconduct, alongside her contemporaries. Following a quiet divorce filing in July, the divorce was finalized in France, as confirmed by a spokesperson to People magazine. The family has since resided in France.
The split followed allegations of Millepied’s infidelity with a significantly younger woman. A report by French media outlet Voici last year accused Millepied of having an affair with 25-year-old climate activist Camille Étienne. People magazine later reported that the affair was brief, with Millepied reportedly seeking Portman’s forgiveness in an effort to preserve their family.
