NFL News: Ohio State’s quarterback Will Howard impressed against Oregon, but Paul Finebaum expresses concerns about his potential to lead the team to a national championship. Read more about the Buckeyes’ season outlook.

College Football News, BollywoodFever: The Ohio State Buckeyes entered the 2024 season with high hopes of competing for a national championship, returning 15 starters and adding standout players like safety Caleb Downs, running back Quinshon Judkins, and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

Ohio State also secured a new quarterback, Will Howard, through the transfer portal. Howard, a veteran with five seasons under his belt, has amassed 7,360 yards, 62 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions with a career completion rate of 61.3%.

In their recent game against the Oregon Ducks, Howard performed impressively, completing 80% of his passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns. However, Paul Finebaum, speaking on The Matt Barrie Show, expressed concerns about whether Howard is the right quarterback to lead Ohio State to a national title.

“Ohio State’s very good,” Finebaum noted. “The problem that we talked about before the year looks like it could still be a problem, and that’s at the quarterback position. Good decisions, bad decisions… but I expected Ohio State to win.”

Finebaum’s critique came despite Howard’s strong numbers against Oregon, as Finebaum admitted part of his expectation for an Ohio State victory stemmed from doubts about Oregon’s abilities. Finebaum also questioned Ryan Day’s record in big games, a narrative that the Buckeyes’ head coach will have an opportunity to shift in the coming weeks.

The Buckeyes are set to face the No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions in a crucial top-five showdown on the road in three weeks. They also close the season with back-to-back games against ranked opponents — the Indiana Hoosiers and the Michigan Wolverines — both of which could have major playoff implications.

With tough competition ahead, Will Howard will need to continue his strong performances to prove himself, as the Buckeyes aim for a deep playoff run and a shot at the national championship.
