Spring Training Highlights: Orioles and Cardinals Dominate, Blue Jays and Astros Impress with Victories
Bollywoodfever, March 12: In Sarasota, Florida, the Baltimore Orioles quickly took command with an eight-run advantage by the second inning, eventually defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 12-8 during their spring training match on Tuesday.
Jordan Westburg highlighted the Orioles’ explosive start with a three-run home run in the first inning, contributing to a five-run surge.

Adley Rutschman stood out by hitting 3-for-4 with two runs batted in (RBIs), while Ramon Urias and Daniel Johnson also hit homers, leading the team to a total of 15 hits. Orioles’ pitcher Tyler Wells (2-0) limited the Rays to one run over four innings.
Taj Bradley was initially set to pitch for the Rays but was sidelined due to chest muscle tightness and underwent an MRI, leading Erasmo Ramirez (0-2) to start instead.
Ramirez struggled, allowing eight runs on eight hits in three innings.
The Rays saw some highlights with Rob Brantly hitting two home runs and Randy Arozarena marking his first of the spring.
In other games, the St. Louis Cardinals overcame the Boston Red Sox 8-6 in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Cardinals’ Alec Burleson and Ivan Herrera each hit home runs and recorded two RBIs. Boston’s Brayan Bello (0-1), who recently signed a six-year deal, allowed four runs over three innings. Matthew Liberatore (2-0) of the Cardinals won despite giving up five runs over four innings.
The Toronto Blue Jays bested the New York Yankees 8-1 in Dunedin, Florida, with Justin Turner going 3-for-3 and driving in two runs. Jose Berrios (1-0) led the pitching effort for Toronto, giving up one run in over three innings. The Yankees’ reliever Duane Underwood Jr. (0-1) took the loss.
The Houston Astros defeated the Miami Marlins 9-1 in Jupiter, Florida, fueled by a six-run fourth inning. Hunter Brown (2-0) pitched for the Astros, allowing only an unearned run over almost four innings. Jesus Luzardo (0-2) of the Marlins struggled, giving up three runs in just over three innings.
The Pittsburgh Pirates secured a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves in Bradenton, Florida, with Oneil Cruz starting strong with his fourth spring home run. The Pirates’ pitching staff held the Braves to two hits, with Josh Fleming (1-0) earning the win.
In a tight game in Lakeland, Florida, the Detroit Tigers narrowly beat the Minnesota Twins 1-0. Kenta Maeda (1-1) of the Tigers outperformed Joe Ryan (1-1) of the Twins in a pitching duel, allowing no runs and striking out seven. Javier Baez’s sacrifice fly brought in the game’s only run.
