British Airways Crew Face Dismissal Over Fat-Shaming Colleague in WhatsApp Group

Two British Airways cabin crew members face potential dismissal for mocking a colleague’s weight in a WhatsApp group. The incident highlights the airline’s zero-tolerance stance on bullying.

Bollywood Fever: Two British Airways cabin crew members are facing potential dismissal after mocking a 15-stone colleague about her weight in a WhatsApp group.

The stewardess, in her early 20s, was horrified when a friend showed her the derogatory messages, as she was not part of the chat herself. Furious colleagues urged her to report the messages to their superiors, leaving the woman from Wiltshire terrified to return to work.

The two crew members have now been taken off duty, causing staffing shortages on flights as cabin crew services stretch to cover their absence. They could be sacked if found guilty of misconduct.

Five more members of the same WhatsApp group are now under scrutiny by the airline after their behavior was exposed.

“The poor victim of the merciless fat jokes has been left utterly bereft,” a source told The Sun on Sunday. “She had no idea her colleagues had such disdain for her. The cruel comments left her scared to leave the house. She felt victimized. This was repugnant bullying.”

The source added that the woman had hired a personal trainer and joined a gym in an effort to lose weight before the abuse began. Airline crews must be within a height and weight range to fit in seats and reach overhead lockers. While there is no specific weight requirement, it must be proportional to their height, which ranges between 2.01m and 1.575m.

British Airways stated, “We have a zero-tolerance approach to bullying and always fully investigate any allegations brought to our attention.”
