Bollywood Fever: Former “Sopranos” star Drea de Matteo has found a new lease on life through her OnlyFans career, which she claims has liberated her from the seedy underbelly of Hollywood and given her the freedom to be her own boss.
The 52-year-old actress, known for her role as Adriana La Cerva on the iconic HBO series, candidly shared how selling racy content on the internet subscription service has significantly changed her life. In a clip from TMZ Presents Famous & Naked, released on Monday, de Matteo maintained her stance on the film and television industry’s shadiness, stating that OnlyFans provides a safer space for her.
“Hollywood, the actual industry itself, there’s a lot of shifty s*** that goes on in Hollywood, and we all know that. It’s about freedom, and I don’t have to answer to f***ing anybody right now,” de Matteo said.
De Matteo’s decision to join OnlyFans was driven by financial desperation, as she was on the brink of losing her home. “When we launched, we had a couple hundred bucks left in the bank. My house was going into foreclosure,” she said in the TMZ clip. “Did I do it out of desperation? F*** yes I did. Did I think it would empower me just to be on OnlyFans? No, that wasn’t the fing point. It empowered me to take care of my fing family.”
Earlier this year, de Matteo slammed Hollywood after being blacklisted by studios for refusing the Covid vaccine, revealing that it forced her to turn to OnlyFans to make ends meet. Her stance on vaccination led to her losing acting opportunities and being dropped by her agent, pushing her into a perilous financial situation and risking the loss of her home.
Despite the initial backlash, de Matteo declared that she made enough money within five minutes of launching her OnlyFans profile to pay off her mortgage foreclosure. She has since implied that she is cutting ties with Hollywood, calling the industry a “cesspool.”
“I mean, that place [Hollywood] is a freaking cesspool. I’m not gonna lie. TV sucks. There’s nothing great. Sopranos opened the door for [me] 100 percent,” de Matteo told DailyMail.com.
Reflecting on her potential return to acting, de Matteo said, “It would have to really be something that was meaningful to me. I’d rather bet on myself than bet on the man at this point.”
Although disillusioned with Hollywood, de Matteo starred in a film after Covid mandates were lifted in May 2023 and before the SAG-AFTRA strike in July 2023. She also launched her own business, a fashion brand called ULTRAFREE, with the financial support from her OnlyFans earnings.
“OnlyFans saved my life, 100 percent. I can’t believe I’m saying that, but it really did save us,” she said, tearing up. “Anybody that wants to condemn me and put me down, go for it. I just hope you never find yourself in the position I was in to take care of two little kids.”
De Matteo’s story is one of resilience and empowerment, showing how she turned a desperate situation into a new chapter of independence and success.
