Bremen High School quarterback Carson Kimball is recovering from a severe spinal injury sustained during a football game. The community rallies around the family with prayers, donations, and fundraisers.
Georgia, Bollywood Fever: The family of Carson Kimball, a senior quarterback at Bremen High School in Georgia, is asking for prayers as he recovers from a severe spinal injury sustained during a football game.
The ambitious 18-year-old, known for his work ethic and humility, was eagerly anticipating the Friday night rivalry game against the Bowdon Red Devils, according to WANF reports.
“This is the rivalry,” said Bremen High School Principal Tim Huff. “I haven’t ever met a kid as talented as he is but is so humble. He does nothing to draw attention to himself. He just works.”
The game took a tragic turn when Carson took a hard hit and didn’t get up, causing the stadium to fall silent. He was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
His family later revealed that Carson had sustained a severe spinal injury that left him motionless from the waist down.
Dr. Jason Mount, a close family friend and emergency room doctor, spent time with Carson in the intensive care unit over the weekend. “It’s, of course, very difficult to see.
Our families love each other, and our children have grown up together. So, to watch my friend have fear for his son is very difficult to observe,” Mount shared.
“When your children grow up together, you think of them almost as your own children. So, knowing that he is hurt is very distressing.”
On Monday, Carson’s older brother, Cole Kimball, provided an update from outside the hospital. He reported some positive signs of recovery.
“He could feel from about his lower chest down Sunday. Now, it’s like 3 or 4 inches lower, so that’s great. We’re taking it day by day,” Cole said. “He’s doing good. He has a great attitude. I love him. He’s incredible.”
Despite the gravity of the situation, Dr. Mount expressed hope for Carson’s recovery. “The hope is still there. There’s recovery to be had. What he is sensing now is not permanent. He can recover,” he emphasized.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist the Kimball family with mounting medical bills, raising over $42,000 as of Monday night.
The Bremen community has also come together in support. At the Kimball family’s business, Sips Soda in Carrollton, employees are volunteering extra hours to raise funds for Carson’s medical expenses.
“Just seeing how the community has come together has been amazing,” Cole Kimball said. “The amount of support they have given has been overwhelming – amazing for us to see just every little thing that they have done.”
As Carson continues to undergo surgeries and strives toward recovery, his family remains steadfast in their faith and request for prayers.
“He’s always had a very strong attitude and faith in Jesus Christ, and he believes in miracles,” Cole shared.
In a show of solidarity, a metro Atlanta boutique is selling “Carson Strong” T-shirts to raise funds, and a barbecue in Carson’s honor is scheduled for Friday before the Bremen High homecoming game.
