Katie Ledecky qualifies for her fourth Olympics with a dominant win in the 400m freestyle at the U.S. swimming trials, setting her sights on more gold at the Paris Games.
Bollywood Fever: Katie Ledecky is heading to her fourth Olympics after cruising to victory in the 400-meter freestyle at the U.S. swimming trials on Saturday night.
Cheered on by a crowd of 20,689 at the home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, Ledecky touched the wall in 3 minutes, 58.35 seconds, improving on her time of 3:59.99 from the morning preliminaries. This performance sets her up for another run at gold against a highly competitive field at the Paris Games. The competition includes Australia’s Ariarne Titmus, the defending Olympic champion and world-record holder (3:55.38), and Canadian phenom Summer McIntosh.
The 27-year-old Ledecky is slated to swim in four freestyle events at the trials, ranging from 200 to 1,500 meters. She already holds six individual gold medals, more than any female swimmer in Olympic history.
The second spot on the Olympic team is expected to go to Paige Madden, who finished as the runner-up behind Ledecky with a time of 4:02.08.
