Paramount Global is hit with a lawsuit over layoffs that allegedly violated New York’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act by failing to give employees proper notice.
BollywoodFever: Paramount Global is facing a class action lawsuit following its latest round of major layoffs. The lawsuit, filed on Thursday in a New York federal court, claims that the company failed to provide adequate notice to over 300 employees who were recently terminated. The lawsuit accuses Paramount of violating New York’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which requires at least 90 days’ notice before a mass layoff.

Paramount’s layoffs, part of a larger plan to cut 15% of its U.S. workforce, are aimed at achieving $500 million in cost savings. The second phase of layoffs began on September 24, with co-CEOs George Cheeks, Brian Robbins, and Chris McCarthy explaining that the reductions were necessary to boost streaming profitability and adjust to the changing media landscape.
The lawsuit, brought on behalf of former employee Julian Hagins, alleges that roughly 295 employees at Paramount’s New York headquarters and 50 others from surrounding worksites were terminated, effective September 30, without receiving the legally required notice. The workers are seeking compensation, including wages, bonuses, holiday pay, and benefits for the 60-day period mandated by law.
Although Paramount has denied the allegations, stating that it complies with Federal and State WARN notice requirements, the lawsuit could result in back wages, benefits, and civil penalties for the company if it is found in violation of the law.
