Taylor Swift Unveils Surprise Double Album ‘The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology

Just two hours after the release of her eagerly awaited album “The Tortured Poets Department,” Taylor Swift delivered an exciting revelation to her fans: the project is a double album.

“I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs,” Swift revealed on Instagram at 2 a.m. ET. “And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.”

The late-night announcement at 2 a.m. may not have completely caught her followers off guard, as Swift had begun dropping subtle hints about the timing in the days leading up to the release. Initially, at a Spotify promotional event for the album at the Grove in Los Angeles, Swift discreetly placed a clue: a clock set at 2:00 on the mantle, accompanied by a peace sign among other small decorations. On Wednesday, she released a teaser video that seemed to bridge her previous “Midnights” era with “The Tortured Poets Department.” The video notably starts with a clock showing 2:00. Finally, coinciding with the album launch at midnight on Friday, Swift initiated a covert two-hour countdown on her Instagram page, leading up to the big surprise.

Below is the tracklist for the unexpected second album:

  • “The Black Dog”
    “imgonnagetyouback”
    “The Albatross”
“Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus”
    “How Did It End?”
