It seemed like I was perpetually the life of the party to others, and I witnessed how they would elevate me only to tear me down later, leaving them perplexed about what they actually expected from me.

Being a Black woman, especially one with a darker complexion, it felt like there was an anticipation for me to endure hardships and still maintain dignity. Yet, I’m only human.

She also recalled grappling with severe depression post-incident, stating, “I found it hard to even leave my bed.

I stayed secluded in my room, avoided any light, and shunned the daylight. Recognizing that I wasn’t in my normal state took time, but acknowledging my depression was a pivotal moment, facilitated by speaking to a therapist.
