Chinese badminton player Zhang Zhijie, 17, dies of cardiac arrest after collapsing during a match at the Asian Junior Championship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Bollywood Fever: Indonesia’s badminton association (PBSI) announced that 17-year-old Chinese player Zhang Zhijie died from cardiac arrest after collapsing during a match on Sunday. Zhang was competing at the Asian Junior Championship in Yogyakarta when the incident occurred.
According to state news agency Antara, PBSI spokesperson Broto Happy confirmed that Zhang received immediate medical attention at the scene before being rushed to a hospital in Yogyakarta, where he was pronounced dead. “The conclusions of the examination and treatment of the victim from two hospitals show the same results; the victim experienced sudden cardiac arrest,” Broto stated on Monday.
Broto further detailed that Zhang had no pulse upon arrival at the first hospital. He was treated for approximately three hours before being transferred to a second hospital, which pronounced him dead at 11:20 p.m. Zhang’s family is expected to come to Yogyakarta to take his body.
China’s badminton association has expressed concerns regarding the timeliness of the medical attention Zhang received and is in communication with the Indonesian side, as reported by state-backed China Newsweek.
