Kirk Herbstreit Booed by Florida State Fans During 2024 “College GameDay” in Dublin

Kirk Herbstreit faced boos from Florida State Seminoles fans during the first 2024 “College GameDay” in Dublin, following his defense of FSU’s omission from last season’s College Football Playoff.

Bollywood Fever: Kirk Herbstreit, a prominent figure in college football commentary for decades, has become a household name for his insightful takes on the game.

However, his influence hasn’t shielded him from criticism, particularly from a vocal segment of the Florida State Seminoles fanbase.

During the first 2024 edition of ESPN’s “College GameDay” in Dublin, Herbstreit received a frosty reception from Seminoles fans, who greeted his introduction with boos.

This reaction stems from lingering frustration over Herbstreit’s stance on Florida State’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff last season.

Former Florida State quarterback Danny Kanell took note of the reception and weighed in on the situation, tweeting, “Hate to see Herbie getting booed this much. Would be a shame if FSU fans kept it up for the whole (three) hours.”

The boos are a response to Herbstreit’s defense of the College Football Playoff committee’s decision to omit the undefeated Seminoles in favor of one-loss teams like Texas and Alabama

Herbstreit’s support for the decision was rooted in concerns over Florida State’s quarterback situation after star QB Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending injury.

With backup quarterbacks Tate Rodemaker and Brock Glenn struggling to generate offense, Herbstreit questioned whether the Seminoles could compete at the highest level in the playoff.

Glenn’s performance in his final two games, going 17-for-47 against Louisville and Georgia, along with Rodemaker’s 12-for-25 showing against Florida before the ACC title game, further fueled Herbstreit’s doubts.

However, whether or not these concerns were legitimate is irrelevant to many Seminoles fans, who felt their undefeated team was unfairly snubbed.

The boos in Dublin marked an entertaining and spirited start to “College GameDay” for the 2024 season, showcasing the passion of the Florida State fanbase.

The Seminoles are set to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, as they aim to prove themselves on the field this season.

As the 2024 college football season unfolds, it will be interesting to see if Herbstreit and the Seminoles can find common ground, or if the tension between the two will continue to provide drama in the weeks to come.
