Mass General Brigham Halts Non-Urgent Care Amid Global IT Failure
Mass General Brigham and other hospitals halt non-urgent visits and surgeries due to a global IT outage affecting Windows systems, impacting patient care across the U.S.
Bollywood Fever: Mass General Brigham, one of the largest healthcare systems in America, has suspended all non-urgent visits, procedures, and surgeries following a global IT failure. The outage disrupted Windows systems worldwide, causing computers and medical devices to go offline and forcing medical staff to rely on pen and paper.
The healthcare system, based in Boston and serving 2.5 million patients annually across its 15 hospitals and clinics, announced that it would only provide care to patients with urgent health issues.

“We have dedicated every available resource to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, and we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our patients,” the provider stated. “It is our highest priority to ensure that our patients receive the safest care possible.”
A spokesperson added, “We continue to care for all patients currently receiving care in our hospitals.”
Other Boston-based hospitals, including Tufts Medical Center and South Shore Health, are also experiencing issues related to the global tech outage. The problem extends beyond Massachusetts, with hundreds of hospitals worldwide believed to be affected.
The IT failure has thrown hospitals into chaos, highlighting the critical dependence on digital systems in healthcare and the widespread impact when such systems fail. Efforts are underway to resolve the issue and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
