Woman Detained Following Deadly Collision at San Francisco Bus Stop, Resulting in Three Fatalities
Bollywood Fever, March 19: A 78-year-old San Francisco woman, Mary Fong Lau, was taken into custody following a tragic accident at a city bus stop, which resulted in the deaths of two adults and a child, while also leaving an infant in critical condition, according to police statements on Monday.
Following her arrest on Sunday, Lau was held in jail as of Monday, as per jail records.
As of Monday, Lau had yet to make a court appearance, and it was unclear if she had legal representation to address the allegations on her behalf.
The charges against Lau include three counts of felony vehicular manslaughter, felony reckless driving with bodily harm, and other traffic-related offenses, detailed by the San Francisco Police Department.
The incident, involving a Mercedes SUV colliding into a bus shelter on Saturday afternoon in the West Portal area, immediately claimed the lives of a man and a child. Lau, among three individuals, was hospitalized following the crash.
A female victim succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, authorities confirmed. The young infant involved in the incident is still receiving critical care.
In the aftermath, community members have been leaving flowers at a makeshift memorial at the crash site. The pedestrian safety organization Walk San Francisco has organized a vigil at the location for Monday evening to honor the victims and raise awareness.
