BollywoodFever: A 54-year-old inmate suffering from a terminal illness passed away Monday night in his cell at the El Paso County jail, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s office on Tuesday.
The inmate had recently been hospitalized for several days, with round-the-clock security provided by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. Despite Sheriff Joe Roybal’s efforts to expedite court proceedings to ensure appropriate end-of-life care, the inmate passed away before these plans could be finalized.

The inmate, convicted earlier this year for failure to comply with probation, had been in custody while awaiting sentencing. He was found unconscious at 9:27 p.m. Monday night. Despite nearly 15 minutes of life-saving measures from sheriff’s personnel, medical staff, the Colorado Springs Fire Department, and AMR, the man could not be revived.
Sheriff Roybal has ordered a full investigation into the circumstances of the death, and an autopsy is planned, though natural causes are suspected.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office expressed sympathy: “Our office extends our condolences to the individual’s family and friends during this difficult time.
