A 29-year-old man was arrested at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after entering with a crossbow. No injuries reported. Police confirm there’s no ongoing threat.
Police have arrested a 29-year-old man who walked into Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow armed with a crossbow early this morning.
The incident happened around 6:30am and was quickly handled thanks to the swift actions of the hospital’s security team. Thankfully, the crossbow wasn’t fired and no one was hurt. According to the BBC, the man was arrested and investigations are still underway.
Inspector Alyssa Fullelove-McCann addressed the public’s likely concerns, saying:
“I’m aware this incident will be concerning but I’d like to provide reassurance that it is being treated as isolated and there is no ongoing risk to the public.”
She added that officers will stay in the area while they continue their investigation, and encouraged anyone with information or concerns to approach them or call 101.
A hospital spokesperson confirmed:
“There was no disruption to any of our services and the hospital is now open as normal.”
This comes not long after a separate and much more serious incident in Leeds last month. In that case, a man armed with a crossbow and firearms injured two women before dying from a self-inflicted injury.
Police were called to the Leeds incident around 2:47pm on Saturday, April 26. Armed officers found that three people had been injured in the attack. Two women, aged 19 and 31, were taken to hospital, with one later discharged.
The attacker, identified as 38-year-old Owen Lawrence, died later in hospital. Counter Terrorism Policing North East (CTPNE) took over the investigation due to disturbing Facebook posts from Lawrence’s account, where he detailed a list of weapons and expressed intentions to target young women. Authorities described the attack as being driven by “misogynistic rage.”
