Madonna and Boxer Boyfriend Josh Popper Split After a Year Due to Her Demanding Career
Madonna and her boxer boyfriend, Josh Popper, have ended their relationship after a year, primarily due to her highly successful career.
The couple faced challenges in finding time together as Madonna spent the past seven months on her extensive Celebration Tour.
The pair first met when Josh, who is 35 years younger than the pop icon, began giving boxing lessons to her son, David Banda.
Madonna has confided to friends that she is now single again following the breakup.
A source explained, “Madonna has barely seen Josh for months because her schedule was so hectic. Things just fizzled out. There is genuinely no bad blood — they’re still fond of each other. At the moment their relationship doesn’t feel feasible and they’ve cooled things off, but they are staying friends.”
Josh supported Madonna during her hospitalization last June due to a bacterial infection. He also joined her and her family on a trip to Portugal last August for her birthday, where he received the approval of her eldest son, Rocco Ritchie.
Throughout her tour, which concluded earlier this month, Josh appeared in visuals during the song “Erotica” and even joined Madonna on stage during her Brooklyn concert in December.
Josh, who coaches boxing at his New York studio, last posted about Madonna on Valentine’s Day, sharing photos of them together on Instagram with the caption: “Missing Portugal.”
Madonna’s team did not respond to requests for comment on the breakup.
The couple began their relationship in early 2023 after Madonna’s split from backing dancer Ahlamalik Williams the previous year. She was seen cheering Josh on to victory at a boxing match in a Brooklyn gym in March 2023.
In 2019, Madonna stated, “People are becoming more and more accepting of unconventional lifestyles, unconventional relationships, marriages, families. I fit into that category. I have six children, four of them are adopted and I’m not married. I continue to defy convention in terms of having an unconventional family.”
