Paris, Bollywood Fever: The United States’ 64-year unbeaten streak in the men’s 4×100 meters medley came to an end at the Paris Olympics on Sunday as China clinched a groundbreaking victory at La Defense Arena.
The Chinese team, consisting of Xu Jiayu, Qin Haiyang, Sun Jiajun, and Pan Zhanle, won with a time of three minutes and 27.46 seconds, narrowly edging out the U.S. team by 0.55 seconds to take the gold. France secured the bronze medal.
While the U.S. did not compete in the 1980 Moscow Games due to a boycott, they had never been defeated in the men’s medley final since the event’s inception at the 1960 Rome Games. This historic win by China marks a significant milestone in the sport, breaking the long-standing dominance of the American team.
