Andre Russell and Jason Holder rested for the West Indies’ T20 series against South Africa, with Matthew Forde and Fabian Allen returning to the squad. Matches are set for August 23, 25, and 27.

Bollywood Fever: West Indies all-rounders Andre Russell and Jason Holder have been rested for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 series against South Africa, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Sunday.

The series is scheduled to take place at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago, on August 23, 25, and 27.

Russell and Holder, two key players for the West Indies, have been given time off to rest and recover. CWI’s Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, explained that both players needed a break after a demanding schedule.

Russell requested a rest period, while Holder recently played in five consecutive Test matches against England and South Africa.

“During this period, they will work closely with the CWI science and medicine team,” Bascombe added.

Returning to the squad are medium pacer Matthew Forde and all-rounder Fabian Allen, who missed the T20 World Cup co-hosted by the West Indies in June.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was rested for the Test series against South Africa, and injured opening batter Brandon King are absent from the 15-man squad.

Head coach Daren Sammy expressed confidence in the squad, noting that with the 2026 T20 World Cup on the horizon, the selected players will be eager to demonstrate their potential and hunger for success.
