Mexican authorities confirmed on Sunday that three bodies found in a well have been positively identified by relatives as two Australian surfers and one American who went missing last weekend.
Baja California state prosecutors stated that family members from both countries had viewed the bodies recovered from a remote well approximately 50 feet (15 meters) deep and recognized them as their loved ones.
The three individuals were apparently killed by thieves during a surfing trip to Mexico’s Baja peninsula, who wanted to steal their truck for its tires. The bodies were then disposed of by dumping them into a well near the coast.
The well, located about 4 miles (6 kilometers) from where the foreigners were killed, also contained a fourth body that had been there for a much longer period.
Authorities have apprehended three suspects in connection with the case, which was reportedly solved more swiftly than the disappearances of thousands of Mexicans.
