Sherri Papini, the California woman known for faking her own abduction, has been quietly involved in a romantic relationship with a recently widowed businessman who bought her a luxury home for $755,000.
Exclusive photos from DailyMail.com show 41-year-old Papini embracing her auto dealer boyfriend Shawn Hibdon, 49, after a private encounter in the backseat of her white Jeep SUV in a Starbucks parking lot in Orland, California, on Monday.
Papini, now the subject of a new Hulu documentary revisiting her case, is seen sharing an intimate moment with Hibdon shortly after appearing in court to fight for increased access to her children, whom she abandoned during her three-week disappearance in November 2016.
Having been exposed as a fraudster who falsely claimed she was abducted by two Hispanic women in 2016, Papini arrived at the rendezvous in her court outfit before changing into casual attire and spending an hour in the car with Hibdon. The pair later checked the parking lot to ensure privacy before leaving separately.
Hibdon, who lost his wife Brittany in September 2021, is a single father to two sons, Houston, 16, and Westley, 14. He began dating Papini before her 10-month stint at FCI Victorville, and the relationship continued after her release. Hibdon even purchased a spacious home for her in Shingletown, California, through a limited liability company named 33 TEN Properties LLC.
Despite Hibdon’s substantial investment, Papini has kept the relationship discreet, claiming in court documents that she rents the property for $500 a month, while the market rent is estimated at over $3,000.
Federal authorities are now seeking to seize the property to recover a $340,000 fine imposed on Papini for her fraudulent activities. Papini has made a partial payment towards the debt.
Papini’s relationship with Hibdon adds another layer to her already controversial story, as she faces off with her ex-husband Keith in court. Keith, who was awarded sole custody of their children and most of their assets, has accused Papini of being a manipulative liar and thief.
The new Hulu documentary, “Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini,” set to release on June 20, delves into Keith’s efforts to uncover the truth behind Papini’s disappearance while she hid at an
ex-boyfriend’s home in Costa Mesa, California. During this time, Keith made emotional appeals for her return and led extensive search efforts across Shasta County.
Keith’s petition for divorce highlighted the emotional turmoil caused by Papini’s deception. “On April 11, 2022, I learned that I and my children had been victimized,” he wrote. “[And] that my wife was a skilled liar, an accomplished thief, a manipulator of others without empathy for their pain and loss.”
While Papini sought a 50 percent share of an insurance payout received by Keith following the Fawn Fire that devastated Shasta County in October 2021, she was awarded only $10,000. Additionally, she was ordered to pay half of a $3,200 Best Buy credit card bill she had incurred.
As the public awaits the release of the Hulu documentary, Papini’s life continues to be a blend of legal battles and secretive romance, adding new chapters to her infamous story.
