Colt McCoy Praises Arch Manning’s Patience as Texas Prepares for Showdown Against Michigan
Texas legend Colt McCoy praises Arch Manning for staying patient behind Quinn Ewers, as the Longhorns prepare to face Michigan in a crucial Week 2 matchup.
NFL, Bollywood Fever: The Texas Longhorns are in a unique position with their quarterback depth, featuring one of the nation’s top starters, Quinn Ewers, and a highly-touted backup in Arch Manning.
In the Longhorns’ season opener against Colorado State, Manning made his first appearance, stepping in for Ewers with Texas already holding a dominant 45-0 lead.
The redshirt freshman made the most of the opportunity, throwing his first-career touchdown on a 3rd-and-goal pass.
With Ewers potentially declaring for the NFL Draft after this season, Manning is in line to take over as the Longhorns’ future starter.

In an era where many young quarterbacks transfer to secure more playing time, Manning’s decision to remain patient and stay at Texas is being applauded by Longhorns legend Colt McCoy.
“I think Arch Manning is the real deal,” McCoy said on The Triple Option. “I’ve spent some time with him. Obviously, he’s got the last name, the pedigree, all those things. But the kid works really, really hard. He’s really smart, and it’s a credit to him for sticking around… really kind of buying his time to be the starter at Texas.”
McCoy, now a FOX Sports Big Ten analyst, also shared some advice for young quarterbacks in today’s game, encouraging them to wait for their opportunity rather than transfer.
“I just look at the quarterbacks that performed the best in Week 1, and across the board, it seems like those are the guys that kind of waited their time,” McCoy added.
The No. 3 Longhorns face a tough test this Saturday, as they head to Ann Arbor to take on defending national champion No. 10 Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on Fox.
