Two fitness industry giants are heading for a legal showdown as David Beckham has filed a lawsuit against Mark Wahlberg’s company, F45, alleging that it cost him a significant amount of money. Beckham’s company, DB Ventures Ltd, claims in the lawsuit that F45 “duped” him into becoming involved with F45 Training, a fitness company in which Wahlberg holds a 36% interest and serves as the chief brand officer.
The connection between Beckham and Wahlberg grew when Beckham relocated to California to play for the L.A. Galaxy, leading to Beckham’s role as F45’s Global Ambassador. The partnership was initially promising, leveraging Beckham’s massive social media following to boost the company’s visibility.
However, the collaboration did not pan out as expected. Beckham contends that he did not receive the $10 million he was promised, following a downturn in the company’s stock value. Additionally, it’s noted that Beckham has since deleted the promotional posts related to F45.
F45 has responded to the lawsuit by requesting its dismissal, labeling the claims as “fraudulent.” Despite this, the judge has decided to let the case proceed.
This is not the first time F45 has faced such allegations. Terrell Owens, the former NFL star, brought a similar lawsuit against the company in 2017, accusing them of failing to pay him $700,000.
