Dean McDermott has not officially ended things with Tori Spelling, despite filing a divorce petition recently where he requested financial support from his estranged spouse.
While McDermott battles Spelling in court, he’s found solace in a new relationship with Lily Calo.
On Wednesday, the 57-year-old actor shared his first Instagram post with Calo, marking their debut as a couple on social media. The snapshot quickly went viral, coinciding with McDermott’s ongoing divorce from his wife of nearly 18 years, with whom he started divorce proceedings on March 29.
In the post, McDermott and Calo are seen standing arm in arm on the red carpet at The Magic Castle, a private club in Los Angeles. “Sometimes ya just gotta put on your best duds and take your girl to The Magic Castle. Cuz she’s Magic!! #mylovey,” McDermott captioned the photo.
Calo, a senior account executive at health brand Conscious Community Global, also shared a picture from the same night on her Instagram, writing, “I’ve got peace and I’ve got love #gratefulheart.”
Interestingly, Calo has met Spelling, and according to McDermott, the two get along well. Spelling even commented on Calo’s photo, writing, “Love you both.” This level of amicability is unexpected given the circumstances.
On an episode of her misSPELLING podcast in April, Spelling expressed her thoughts about Calo: “I like Lily a lot. It’s not bad. It’s just, you know, it’s different.”
Spelling and McDermott share five children: Liam, 17; Stella, 15; Hattie, 12; Finn, 11; and Beau, 7. Spelling has requested sole custody, while McDermott is seeking joint custody.
In November 2023, McDermott opened up about his personal struggles in an interview with The Daily Mail, taking responsibility for his failures as a husband. “All Tori’s ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy, and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman,” he said on November 15. “I’m taking accountability for that today. And it’s the biggest amend that I’m ever going to have to make.”
This admission has likely helped the ex-spouses maintain a decent relationship. McDermott acknowledged his struggles with alcohol: “Alcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn’t – it ended up in isolation,” he said. “It ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcos by myself with a beautiful family in the other room. That’s what it led to and that’s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori.”
Spelling and McDermott exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Fiji on May 7, 2006, after meeting the previous year while filming the TV movie Mind Over Murder. Recently, Spelling was spotted kissing Ryan Cramer, CEO of Santa Monica-based agency Neuron Syndicate Inc., in November.
