The 30-year-old Canadian athlete detailed how tennis is well-suited for showcasing sex appeal and discussed the various opportunities it provides outside of the sport.

Tennis, first of all, is a great sport for that sex appeal side,” Bouchard shared in an interview with YouTuber Valeria Lipovetsky. “We’re wearing short skirts, we’re wearing tank tops. It’s fun to turn on the TV and watch that. Right away I was able to get great marketing deals off the court, being asked to be in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition a few times.

Exploring modeling and media opportunities was a deliberate choice for Bouchard. “Exploring that path was definitely on my to-do list. It’s definitely part of who I am because I think it’s great,” she said.

Bouchard’s tennis career, while promising, has been affected by injuries since her breakthrough in 2014 when she reached the Wimbledon final at 20 years old, ultimately losing to Serena Williams. Despite these setbacks, she found that modeling helped her transcend the role of a sports star and expanded her fanbase, bringing more attention to tennis.

Why keep myself in a box? Why not try to become bigger, or better, or transcend tennis, or explore other fields?” Bouchard remarked. “Tennis is the only thing I know, but it can’t be the only thing I’ll ever do in my life. So I found it very interesting to be in magazines or do fashion stuff and see that I really enjoyed these things as well.

By increasing her visibility through modeling and fashion, Bouchard has not only secured better brand deals and endorsements but has also attracted casual fans to tennis events. “That’s good for tennis in general, for female tennis, for women’s sports, that’s good for everything,” she noted.

Although Bouchard has recently taken up pickleball, she insists her tennis career is not over. In an interview with ESPN in January, she emphasized her commitment to the sport. Bouchard’s last tour-level appearance was at the Guadalajara Open in September, where her run ended in the Round of 32 against Veronika Kudermetova.

Through her endeavors both on and off the court, Eugenie Bouchard continues to be a prominent figure in the world of sports, leveraging her multifaceted talents to elevate women’s tennis and inspire a broader audience.
