James Argent, known for his role on The Only Way is Essex, has been sentenced to a six-month suspended prison term and given a two-year restraining order by a Spanish court following a violent altercation with his girlfriend, Nicoline Artursson, during a recent holiday in Spain.
The 37-year-old reality star pleaded guilty to shoving Artursson during a heated dispute. Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, with Argent reportedly throwing clothes off a balcony before storming out of the property carrying a bag.
One bystander, who comforted Nicoline after the incident, told The Mirror, “She was crying a lot… She looked extremely distressed and nervous.” The source added that Nicoline had said, “I’m in total shock… my life with Arg was so happy before this. I can’t believe what’s happened… we planned to have a family.”
Injuries and Police Response
Authorities were called to the scene shortly before midnight. By the time police and Nicoline’s mother arrived, Argent had already left.
Reports confirm that Nicoline suffered cuts and bruises to her neck, forearm, hand, and leg. A prosecutor’s document detailed the injuries, stating:
“The injured woman suffered several bruises to her neck, a bruise to her right forearm, several abrasions to her right arm, and abrasions to her right hand and on her right leg.”
The injuries were treated medically and healed within seven days, according to the prosecution.
Court Decision and Consequences
Argent later appeared before the Court of Violence Against Women in Fuengirola, where the case was resolved on the same day under a plea agreement. The Andalucia High Court of Justice confirmed that Argent’s sentence included a six-month suspended prison term, a two-year no-contact and no-approach order, and a requirement to complete a ten-week domestic violence rehabilitation course, which includes listening to abuse survivors’ testimonies.
The court clarified that because Argent had no prior criminal record in Spain, he would not serve jail time unless he violates the conditions of the sentence.
Argent Speaks Out
Breaking his silence, Argent said:
“I haven’t relapsed. I am still three years and four months clean and sober. I am devastated by what’s happened.”
Spanish officials also noted that there was no indication he had been under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the incident, a point supported by the speed at which the case was resolved.

Just days after the court ruling, Argent was back on social media, attending a black-tie charity event in London. He performed with The Arg Band at the Wickers Charity Ball, an event aimed at tackling knife crime, and posted about the evening on Instagram:

However, some close to the couple have criticized Argent’s return to public life. A source told The Sun:
“James should be ashamed of himself. He is acting like nothing happened and seems to be trying to brush over this. What he did was serious.”
