Jennie Kim, BLACKPINK’s K-pop sensation, departs Melbourne show midway through her performance
Unexpected Exit: BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim Leaves Melbourne Show Mid-Performance
Victoria concert attendees were left stunned on Sunday night when an international superstar abruptly exited the stage during a performance.
Jennie Kim, a member of the renowned K-pop group BLACKPINK, walked offstage in the middle of the group’s fifth song at Melbourne’s Qudos Bank Arena. Fan-recorded footage of the incident quickly spread online, capturing the moment Kim made her departure.
Despite Kim’s sudden absence, her bandmates Lisa Manobal, Kim Jisoo, and Rose Park continued with the two-hour show without her. Park addressed the crowd, explaining, “It seems that we will be proceeding with the rest of the show without Jennie.
However, we will try our best to fill the stage up for you guys and give you the best night, so don’t worry about that. In the meantime, our hearts will be with Jennie, supporting her.” As a show of solidarity, the band and the audience joined together in a chant of “Jennie.”
Online posts from attendees reveal Kim was also absent from the soundcheck on Sunday afternoon.
During the Melbourne concert, BLACKPINK informed the audience that Jennie Kim was feeling unwell and needed to rest prior to the performance. Unfortunately, Kim’s condition worsened, preventing her from completing the show.
YG Entertainment, the band’s management, released a statement explaining the situation and expressing their deepest apologies to the fans who have been supporting BLACKPINK and those who attended the event. They kindly requested understanding in this unfortunate circumstance.
According to YG Entertainment, Jennie Kim expressed her desire to continue with the performance; however, on-site medical advice advised against it. Immediate measures were taken to ensure that she receives sufficient rest and stability.
Kim expressed her regrets for not being able to stay with the fans until the end and assured everyone of her commitment to recovering as soon as possible. YG Entertainment pledged their utmost support for her speedy recovery and once again requested understanding from the fans.
BLACKPINK is currently in the midst of a world tour and is scheduled to perform in Sydney this upcoming weekend. Since their debut in 2016, BLACKPINK has rapidly risen to become one of the biggest acts globally.
Both of their albums have reached the second position on the Australian charts, and they achieved a number one single with “Pink Venom” in 2022.
In addition to her musical career, Kim is making her acting debut in HBO’s The Idol, where she is credited as Jennie Ruby Jane.
This incident occurred just a week after American singer Ethel Cain collapsed while performing at Sydney’s Vivid festival. Cain, however, returned to perform the following night, albeit with a reduced set.
