Joey King Gushes Over Sabrina Carpenter’s Success and New Hit Song
Joey King expresses her admiration for Sabrina Carpenter’s success and new song “Please Please Please” at the Despicable Me 4 premiere. Discover how these friends are reaching new heights in their careers!
Joey King is not just thrilled about her friend Sabrina Carpenter‘s recent success as a pop star—she’s also quite captivated by her songs!
Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the Despicable Me 4 premiere at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City on Sunday, June 9, The Act star, 24, expressed her immense happiness for the “Espresso” singer, 25.
“Yesterday was the first time I’ve seen her perform in a few years because every time I wanted to attend one of her big shows, our schedules just didn’t align,” King shared, referring to seeing Carpenter perform at the Governors Ball music festival on Saturday, June 8.
“I was literally sobbing after the show. I was so proud of her. She’s just amazing,” King added, reflecting on her friend’s performance.
King is also hooked on Carpenter’s new song, “Please Please Please,” produced by Taylor Swift‘s longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff.
“I’m so happy for her and I just can’t stop singing ‘Please Please Please’ … it’s stuck in my head,” the Bullet Train star admitted.
“It’s so rude of her to make a hit like that. It’s also so rude to create such an addicting music video,” she continued, referring to the video that features Carpenter’s boyfriend, Barry Keoghan. “It’s really rude to make me watch it six times at 2:00 a.m. when I want to go to bed.”
King and Carpenter, who both have Disney backgrounds, met years ago at an industry charity event, but their close friendship developed over time, King told Wired.
Both are reaching new heights in their careers—Carpenter opened for Swift, 34, on recent legs of her wildly successful Eras Tour and found massive success with her hit song “Espresso.”
As for King, besides starring alongside Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig in Despicable Me 4, she’ll appear with Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron in the upcoming Netflix rom-com A Family Affair.
Despicable Me 4 hits theaters on July 3.
