Lakers Fire Head Coach Darvin Ham Following Playoff Elimination
Darvin Ham has been let go from his position as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, following two seasons with the team. The decision came shortly after the Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round, prompting speculation about Ham’s leadership and adaptability.

Despite this recent setback, Ham’s tenure had its highlights. The team made a strong playoff showing last year and even clinched the inaugural In-Season Tournament in December.
In response to Ham’s departure, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka expressed appreciation for Ham’s contributions, acknowledging the team’s accomplishments under his leadership. Pelinka emphasized the difficult nature of the decision, but stressed the organization’s commitment to delivering championship-level performance.
The Lakers are now on the lookout for a new head coach, with potential candidates including Mike Budenholzer, Kenny Atkinson, and JJ Redick. There’s also a possibility of pursuing Ty Lue, the current Clippers coach, should he become available.
During his time with the Lakers, Ham achieved a regular-season record of 90-74 and a playoff record of 11-12, with a particularly challenging 1-8 record against the Denver Nuggets.
