Lando Norris: The Journey to Formula 1 Champion

Lando Norris had been honing his driving skills for years before achieving Formula 1 glory as a champion.

His breakthrough came in May 2024 at the Miami Grand Prix, where he clinched the prestigious title after more than 100 races. “Woo!” he exclaimed. “I love you all… We did it!”

Lando Norris: The Journey to Formula 1 Champion

Prior to his triumph in Miami, Norris held the record for the most podium finishes in F1— an impressive 15— without a race win.

Norris started karting at the club level in 2008, and he made history as the youngest-ever British Formula 1 driver when he debuted at the 2019 Australian GP at just 19 years old. He has also amassed several other accolades, including becoming the youngest World Championship winner at the CIK-FIA KF World Championships in 2014.

In September 2018, McLaren announced him as a driver for the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship. Three years later, he extended his contract with McLaren through at least 2025.

Born in November 1999 in Bristol, England, Norris is the second child of Adam and Cisca, with older son Oliver and younger daughters Flo and Cisca.

Norris’ admiration for Gil de Ferran, who passed away in December 2023, was profound. De Ferran, a close friend and mentor to Norris, was honored by Norris with a heartfelt Instagram post and a specially designed helmet. When Norris triumphed in the Formula 1 Grand Prix in May 2024, he dedicated the win to de Ferran.

In October 2023, Norris marked his 100th race with a celebratory Instagram post, signaling his milestone in the sport. He has also shown his support for other sports, attending the Ryder Cup in Italy and cheering on his sister Flo, a champion equestrian.
