The Philadelphia Eagles are slated to participate in this historic game, with their opponent and the exact time of kickoff to be announced in the future.

The game, scheduled for September 6, signifies the first Friday night season kickoff in over five decades.

In addition to unveiling the season’s inaugural game, the NFL has also confirmed that Prime Video will exclusively stream a wild-card playoff game in January.

This update, initially revealed in February, has now been officially confirmed. The broadcast of last January’s wild-card game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins on Peacock attracted a record-breaking average viewership of approximately 23 million, setting a new high for a livestream.

Amazon continues its engagement with the NFL through a long-term agreement, streaming 15 Thursday Night Football games each season and having hosted the NFL’s first-ever game on Black Friday the previous November.

Despite the exclusivity tag, these streaming games will still be broadcasted on local TV in the home markets of the participating teams and will be available on mobile devices through NFL+ in line with the league’s media rights agreements.

Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s EVP of media distribution, announced this news at the league’s annual meeting in Orlando, FL. Schroeder highlighted the NFL’s commitment to adapting to changing media consumption habits by ensuring games are available on digital platforms where fans are increasingly active.

He pointed out the significant viewership numbers for Thursday Night Football on Prime Video and the notable success of last season’s wild-card game on Peacock as evidence of the effectiveness of the league’s streaming strategy.

Rick Cordella, President of NBC Sports, remarked on the unprecedented nature of a single company broadcasting three prime-time games in the opening week.

He emphasized that the September game on Peacock is scheduled shortly after the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, which promises comprehensive livestream coverage of every event over several weeks.

Jay Marine, the global head of sports and ads at Prime Video, expressed pride in the platform’s continued partnership with the NFL.
