O.J. Simpson Estate Executor Open to Discussing Financial Claims, Offers Transparency

O.J. Simpson’s estate executor, Malcolm LaVergne, is open to discussing financial matters with the parties to whom Simpson owed tens of millions of dollars at the time of his death. However, he is not making any guarantees about the amount the estate will pay them.

In a letter dated April 25, LaVergne reached out to lawyers for the Brown and Goldman families regarding their civil judgments against O.J. He invited them to a meeting to discuss their probate claims against the estate, aiming to share information such as O.J.’s living revocable trust, his last two years of federal tax returns, federal tax liens, cash, and jewelry retrieved from O.J.’s house after his death, as well as videos of Simpson’s residence.

LaVergne emphasized transparency in the probate process but noted that all claims against the estate must adhere to Nevada probate law. He acknowledged two active judgments in Nevada, one for Ron Goldman’s father and one for his mother, Sharon, but stated he could not find evidence of an active judgment from Nicole Brown Simpson’s estate. He expressed willingness to consider any proof of such a judgment but clarified that he would not honor an inactive judgment.

While LaVergne aims to hold the meeting on or before May 10, he indicated flexibility regarding the date to accommodate all parties. This approach contrasts with his initial statement after O.J.’s death, where he suggested the Goldmans would receive nothing. However, LaVergne later clarified that he would follow Nevada probate law.

Simpson was ordered to pay $33.5 million to the Goldmans and Browns in the late ’90s after being found liable for their deaths in a civil trial. The interest over time has reportedly inflated this amount to nine figures. LaVergne, while somewhat vague about
