Paige Spiranac Defends Caitlin Clark Amid Criticism as She Eyes WNBA Draft
Golf personality Paige Spiranac spoke out in support of Iowa’s standout basketball player Caitlin Clark as her team faced defeat against South Carolina in the national championship game.
Clark has been under scrutiny from WNBA icons like Diana Taurasi, Sheryl Swoopes, ex-UConn star Breanna Stewart, and Hall of Famer Lynette Woodard in recent months while she aimed for the all-time scoring record and the national title.

Spiranac, familiar with receiving criticism online, expressed her disappointment over the negative remarks directed at Clark. “The hate towards Caitlin Clark from current and former players is disappointing but not surprising,” Spiranac stated on X. “Women can be absolutely vicious to other women while also preaching empowering the next generation. I’ve seen it first hand but we must remember a rising tide lifts all boats.”
Despite the criticism, Clark remained focused on her game, contributing 30 points in the final match against the Gamecocks.
Reflecting on the season, Clark shared, “It’s certainly been a special year. To be honest, after last year I was kind of, like, ‘How do we top doing what we did last year?’ Somehow, some way, every single person in our locker room believed. To be honest, this year was probably more special than last year.”
Looking ahead, Clark is poised to enter the WNBA, with expectations high for her to be the first pick in the draft on April 15, a position currently held by the Indiana Fever, who chose Aliyah Boston as the top pick last year from South Carolina.
