Caitlin Clark Bids Farewell to Iowa Hawkeyes, Embarks on Next Chapter
Iowa Hawkeyes standout Caitlin Clark bid an emotional goodbye to the women’s basketball team and the university she significantly boosted during her tenure.

After a challenging 87-75 defeat to the Gamecocks in the national championship on Sunday, Clark shared an image featuring her black Iowa jersey and her yellow sneakers, accompanied by a succinct three-word farewell.
Despite Clark’s impressive effort, scoring 30 points with ten field goals out of 28 attempts and nailing five 3-point shots, the Gamecocks’ intensity proved overwhelming.
Clark helped Iowa to an early lead with a seven-point advantage in the first quarter, yet South Carolina made a strong comeback in the second quarter and maintained their dominance, especially with their stringent defense against Clark and her teammates.
The Hawkeyes had to watch as South Carolina celebrated their championship victory, their second in the last three years.
Clark is on the cusp of joining the WNBA as a significant figure, likely as the number one pick in the upcoming draft, just eight days away.

Reflecting on the loss, Clark shared, “The emotions will probably hit me over the next couple days. I don’t have much time to sit around and sulk and be upset. I don’t think that’s what I’m about either. Yeah, I’m sad we lost this game, but I’m also so proud of myself, I’m so proud of my teammates, I’m so proud of this program. There’s a lot to be proud of.”
Her influence over the past two seasons extended beyond Iowa, contributing significantly to elevating women’s basketball on a broader scale.
Dawn Staley, South Carolina’s head coach, took a moment from the celebration to commend Clark, stating, “I want to personally thank Caitlin Clark for lifting up our sport. She carried a heavy load for our sport, and it is not going to stop here on a collegiate tour. When she’s the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft, she’s going to lift that league up as well.”
Staley also added, “So, Caitlin Clark, if you’re out there, you are one of the GOATs (greatest of all time) of our game, and we appreciate you.”
Clark concludes her collegiate career as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer.
