Bollywood Fever: A significant piece of tennis history is up for auction—the shirt worn by Rafael Nadal during his first Grand Slam title win at the 2005 French Open. This iconic item is anticipated to fetch a substantial amount.
The match-worn shirt, which Nadal donned during the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final at Roland Garros, is being offered by Prestige Memorabilia. The legendary green sleeveless tee started with a bid of $25,000 but is expected to sell for around $100,000, a testament to its historical significance. This tournament not only marked Nadal’s first appearance at the French Open but also his initial face-off with future rival Roger Federer.
Nadal, known as “The King of Clay,” was only 19 years old when he secured his first of 22 Grand Slam titles. In a fitting turn of events, his most recent Grand Slam victory also came at the French Open in June 2022, 17 years after his first.
Throughout his illustrious 22-year career, Nadal has won 1,075 matches and amassed $134 million in prize money across singles and doubles competitions. This shirt is reportedly the only photo-matched garment from a Grand Slam win available for auction.
The auction for this rare piece of tennis memorabilia will run until August 4, so enthusiasts and collectors are encouraged to place their bids soon.
