Everyone was anticipating Ronnie Ortiz-Magro’s first meeting with Samantha “Sammi Sweetheart” Giancola’s new boyfriend to be awkward, as Pauly D would say. However, Thursday’s episode of Jersey Shore Family Vacation showed that it wasn’t as uncomfortable as expected.
It was the first time Ronnie, Sam, and her boyfriend, Justin May, were in the same room together, following another intense argument with Angelina Pivarnick during the cast trip to Arizona. Sammi was emotionally drained before the group went out to dinner, hoping that she, Justin, and Ron could simply “coexist.”
As they headed to dinner, the group wondered how awkward it would be, but they hoped for a drama-free evening. When Ron arrived at the restaurant, he went around the table to greet everyone, including Justin. They shook hands, exchanged pleasantries, and that was it.
After the brief interaction, Sam, who didn’t seem to acknowledge Ron, told her boyfriend, “You’re a good sport.” She later said in a confessional that she didn’t want her boyfriend and ex shaking hands, but she preferred a peaceful situation.
Vinny Guadagnino expressed his surprise at the handshake, while Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino joked, “It’s almost like they saw a reflection in each other.” Despite the initial tension, dinner went smoothly without any drama.
Ron later told the other guys that he thought Justin’s reaction “showed maturity,” but he joked that it didn’t mean he’d attend their wedding or babysit their kids on date night. He also mentioned in a confessional that he believed he and Justin had a better chance of being friends than he and Sam.
Speaking to TooFab before reuniting with Ronnie, Sam admitted that it wasn’t an “ideal” situation. She knew that if she returned to the show, this could happen. However, she emphasized that Ronnie doesn’t affect her life anymore and compared their relationship to working with a coworker. She stated that she’s not happy about the situation but is focused on staying positive and avoiding bad vibes.
