Samsung Wins Pioneering AI Chip Order from Japan’s Preferred Networks
Samsung Electronics secures a groundbreaking order from Preferred Networks to produce AI chips using its 2-nanometre foundry process and advanced chip packaging services.
Bollywood Fever: Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday that it has secured an order from Japanese artificial intelligence company Preferred Networks to manufacture chips for AI applications. These will be produced using Samsung’s cutting-edge 2-nanometre foundry process and advanced chip packaging services.
This marks Samsung’s first disclosed order for its state-of-the-art 2-nanometre chip contract manufacturing process. However, the company did not disclose the size of the order.

The chips, designed by South Korea’s Gaonchips Co, will feature high-tech architecture known as gate all-around (GAA). This technology allows multiple chips to be integrated into a single package, enhancing interconnection speed and reducing overall size, according to a Samsung statement.
Junichiro Makino, vice president and chief technology officer of computing architecture at Preferred Networks, stated that these chips will be utilized in the company’s high-performance computing hardware, which supports generative AI technologies such as large language models.
This strategic partnership highlights Samsung’s advancements in chip technology and its pivotal role in the AI industry, positioning it at the forefront of next-generation AI hardware development.
