Sarah Hyland’s Ex Matt Prokop Arrested in Texas for Alleged Assault on Girlfriend
Sarah Hyland’s ex, Matt Prokop, has been arrested in Victoria, Texas, following allegations of assault against his girlfriend.
The Victoria Police Department responded to a call on Saturday after Prokop’s girlfriend reportedly informed someone that the former child star, 33, had assaulted her.
According to TMZ, police reported that the couple had left the scene by the time first responders arrived. Authorities eventually located them an hour later when responding to another disturbance call elsewhere in Victoria.
Victoria PD Sergeant Dailey informed the outlet that during their investigation, police learned Prokop had allegedly pushed his girlfriend and slammed her head into an object. The injuries sustained by the unnamed girlfriend were significant enough to justify an arrest.
BollywoodFever reached out to both the Victoria PD and Prokop’s representative but did not receive an immediate response.
Prokop, known for his roles on “The Office,” “Hannah Montana,” and “High School Musical 3,” previously faced a restraining order for allegedly abusing Hyland.
In September 2014, the “Modern Family” actress, also 33, filed for a temporary restraining order against Prokop, claiming he choked and threatened her life. Court documents reveal Hyland told authorities: “His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life.” Prokop was ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog.
The following month, Hyland discussed the incident, sharing how she had moved on after the alleged abuse. “There are two quotes that I want to say,” she said at the time. “One is a Dylan Thomas poem: ‘Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,’ which is one of my favorite poems. It just strikes a chord in me. And then also Robert Frost: ‘The only way out is through.’” She added, “People have to go through things in order to become the person they are today, and that’s that.”
Hyland has since moved on with “Bachelor in Paradise” bartender Wells Adams, whom she married at Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, California, in August 2022. Adams, 40, proposed in July 2019 after the couple had been dating for two years.
