Silicon Box Announces $3.5 Billion Investment for New Semiconductor Plant in Italy

Bollywoodfever, March 11: Singapore’s Silicon Box, a semiconductor company, has unveiled plans to invest 3.2 billion euros ($3.5 billion) in establishing a new manufacturing facility in Northern Italy, as announced by the Italian Industry Ministry.

This move is supported by the government and marks a significant step in Italy’s ongoing efforts to draw technology investments, including a previously uncompleted agreement with U.S. tech giant Intel.

The initiative is expected to create 1,600 direct new jobs and additional indirect employment opportunities during the construction phase and within the broader supply and logistics network once the plant is fully operational.

Industry Minister Adolfo Urso highlighted that the project’s operational costs are anticipated to reach about 4 billion euros over the next 15 years.

The exact location of the new plant in Northern Italy is yet to be determined, with several potential sites being considered.

Silicon Box, a relatively new player in the industry founded by the entrepreneurs behind U.S. chipmaker Marvell, specializes in the development of ‘chiplets’.

These tiny semiconductors, comparable in size to a grain of sand, are combined through advanced packaging techniques.

This method offers a cost-effective solution for assembling small chips into a single processor capable of powering a wide range of applications, from data centers to everyday household devices.
