Sydney, Bollywood Fever: A Sydney family is reeling from unimaginable grief after a grandfather tragically collapsed and died at his eight-year-old grandson’s funeral.
Stan was saying goodbye to little Tommy, who succumbed to cancer earlier this month, when he collapsed outside the chapel following the funeral service. Despite immediate CPR efforts by doctors and nurses present at the service and being rushed to Blacktown Hospital, Stan could not be saved.
Tommy’s mother and Stan’s daughter, Amanda Adams-Bennett, expressed her profound sorrow on a fundraising page created to support her mother, Lin. “We had to say goodbye to our son and now my dad,” she wrote. “My mum lost her loyal husband of 47 years. The most patient, kind, respectful, and honest man I know. I was so proud to call him dad, and our boys their poppy.”
She described the family’s anguish, stating, “Our family is going through the most unimaginable pain. Two beautiful people we love with all our hearts, gone from this earth far too soon.”
Speaking to 7News, Ms. Adams-Bennett highlighted the special bond her father had with his grandchildren, particularly Tommy. “He had such an amazing bond with Thomas … and when he collapsed, I thought at the time he must’ve just been so overcome with grief,” she said.
Tommy was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive childhood cancer, in September last year. He passed away on July 2, and his funeral was held on July 12, which now also marks the date of Stan’s passing.
The family is now not only coping with the loss of young Tommy but also the sudden and tragic death of Stan, adding layers of grief to their already heavy hearts.
