Sydney Sweeney is capitalizing on her on-set experiences, particularly during the production of her recent rom-com, “Anyone But You,” where she shares the screen with Glen Powell.
The talented actress made a stylish appearance on the red carpet at the premiere of her latest biopic, “Reality,” in New York City. In an interview with ET’s Rachel Smith, Sweeney discussed the thought-provoking nature of the politically charged drama while also expressing her excitement about the delightful moments she experienced while filming her upcoming romantic comedy.
“It was such a blast!” Sweeney said of her time on the set of Anyone But You. “I mean, Australia was such a beautiful place to film, and the cast and crew were so much fun.”
“I’ve never laughed so much on a set before,” she added. “I had a really good time. I was living my best life. I loved it.”
Sydney Sweeney is fully immersing herself in her on-set experiences, particularly during the filming of the recent rom-com “Anyone But You,” directed by Will Gluck, known for his work on “Easy A.” The film is a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” and revolves around two former adversaries, portrayed by Sweeney and Powell, who despise each other but are forced to pretend to be a couple. Eventually, a genuine romance blossoms between them.
In her biopic drama “Reality,” Sweeney takes on the role of Reality Winner, a real-life political figure and whistleblower. Winner faced legal charges and imprisonment under the Espionage Act in 2018 for leaking documents related to Russian interference in the 2016 election. Sweeney expressed her admiration for the complexity of the character, highlighting that the script was directly derived from transcripts of actual events, a unique aspect she had not encountered before in her career.
The Euphoria actress shared, “Just how complex Reality was as a character… I’ve never seen a script that was taken directly from a transcript of a real moment of someone’s life. So, just playing something like that was just different than anything I’ve done before.” Sweeney acknowledged the challenges of faithfully portraying a character with limited dialogue, emphasizing her commitment to honoring the true story of Reality Winner.
Prior to filming, Sweeney had the opportunity to meet with Reality Winner herself, arranged by director Tina Satter. Winner had a close relationship with Reality’s family, and Sweeney was able to engage in conversations with her. One aspect that struck Sweeney was Winner’s surprising sense of humor, which she found impressive and unexpected. She shared, “She’s funny… She actually has a really funny sense of humor.”
