While many NFL players see Taylor Swift’s presence as a positive for the league, some believe the NFL is overdoing it with constant on-screen coverage of the pop star.
BollywoodFever: A recent anonymous player poll conducted by The Athletic revealed that 72.5 percent of NFL players believe Taylor Swift‘s newfound presence at games has been beneficial to the league. Swift’s attendance, particularly at Kansas City Chiefs games, has brought a surge of attention from her massive fan base, particularly from younger female fans. However, not all players are fully on board with the NFL’s approach to covering the pop star.
While most players view Swift’s presence positively, 22.5 percent of those surveyed see both pros and cons. They note that the league’s repeated focus on her during broadcasts may alienate some long-time NFL fans. One player pointed out that Swift is shown on camera too frequently during games, saying, “people get sick of it.”
“It’s bringing more attention to the game,” the unnamed player admitted, “but they probably show her like six, seven times. People get … sick of it if they keep doing it over and over again.”
Another player echoed similar thoughts, explaining that Kansas City Chiefs fans may not want to see Swift during every commercial break or timeout. “It’s great the impact she’s making on the younger female generation and getting them to learn about the sport,” the player explained, “but all the true football fans are tired of seeing it.”
Although Swift has pledged to attend more games to support her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, it remains to be seen whether the NFL will scale back on the constant Swift-centric camera shots during broadcasts. Balancing the excitement she brings with the preferences of traditional football fans may prove to be a challenge for the league.
