Tesla Proposes Robotaxis in China, FSD Approval Awaited

Tesla has reportedly proposed launching robotaxis in China, as per a report by the China Daily citing unnamed sources. While China may support Tesla’s domestic testing and demonstration of robotaxis, the full implementation of Full Self-Driving (FSD) software in China has not yet been approved.

FSD is the most autonomous version of Tesla’s Autopilot software, offering features like self-parking, auto lane changes, and traffic navigation. It was rolled out in 2020.

Tesla has not responded immediately to requests for comment on the China Daily report. The report comes after Tesla CEO Elon Musk visited Beijing last month, aiming to make progress in rolling out FSD. During the trip, Musk discussed FSD rollout and the possibility of securing government approvals for transferring data overseas, crucial for autonomous vehicle development, according to a source familiar with the matter.
