A woman has been arrested for misconduct in public office following the circulation of a video showing a prison officer allegedly having sex with an inmate at HMP Wandsworth.

Bollywood Fever: A woman has been arrested in connection with a viral video allegedly showing a prison officer engaging in sexual activity with an inmate at HMP Wandsworth. The footage, which surfaced online on Friday, appears to capture the incident, filmed by another inmate using a mobile phone. The individual recording the video can be heard commenting, “Guys, we’ve made history, this is what I’m telling you,” while seemingly smoking.

The video also features audio from the officer’s radio left on a side table and shows a heap of the prisoner’s clothes on a bunk bed. The Metropolitan Police quickly launched an investigation and confirmed the arrest of a woman for misconduct in public office on June 28. She is currently in police custody as inquiries continue, with close cooperation from the Ministry of Justice.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police read: “A police investigation was launched on 28 June after officers were made aware of a video allegedly filmed inside HMP Wandsworth. A woman was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on 28 June. She has been taken into police custody. Enquiries continue. We remain in close contact with the Ministry of Justice.”

An HMP Prison Service spokesperson added, “Staff corruption is not tolerated and the former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police. It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate.” The Mirror has reached out to the prison service for additional comments.

The exact timing of the incident remains unclear. This event follows HMP Wandsworth’s recent placement under special measures after a damning report highlighted severe issues within the facility. Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor’s unannounced visit revealed that 80% of prisoners were sharing cells designed for one person, 44% tested positive for drugs, and some inmates reported going without showers for five days.

This arrest underscores ongoing challenges within the prison system and the efforts to address and root out corruption among staff.
