Bollywood Fever: Uruguay has suspended all football activities for the weekend following a serious health scare involving Nacional defender Juan Izquierdo.

The 27-year-old player suffered an irregular heartbeat during a Copa Libertadores match against Sao Paulo on Thursday, leading to a critical situation that prompted the suspension.

Izquierdo, who entered the match as a substitute for Sebastián Coates at halftime, collapsed unconscious in the 84th minute without any contact with another player.

The sudden incident shocked players and fans alike, as Izquierdo lay unresponsive on the pitch.

He was immediately attended to by medical staff and taken off the field in an ambulance, still unconscious.

He is currently being treated in the intensive care unit at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

In light of this incident, the Mutual Uruguayan Professional Footballers’ Association (MUFP) issued a statement on Friday, announcing the suspension of all scheduled football activities for the weekend.

Given the delicate health situation of footballer Juan Izquierdo, we inform our decision to suspend the professional football activity scheduled for this weekend,” the MUFP stated. “Our priority at the moment is to look after Juan’s wellbeing, so we will closely follow his evolution in the coming hours.”

Nacional, Izquierdo’s club, took to social media to update fans on his condition, confirming that he is currently stable but remains sedated in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

He will be “under observation for at least the next 72 hours,” the club added, emphasizing the importance of this period for his recovery.

The suspension of football activities underscores the seriousness of Izquierdo’s condition and the collective concern within the Uruguayan football community.

Players, teams, and fans across the country are uniting in support of Izquierdo and his family during this challenging time.

As the football world waits for further updates, the focus remains on Izquierdo’s recovery, with hopes that he will make a full and swift return to health.
