HBO’s new documentary “Money Electric” delves into Bitcoin’s origins and controversially points to software developer Peter Todd as the enigmatic Satoshi Nakamoto.
Bollywoodfever: On Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, HBO premiered its highly anticipated documentary Money Electric, directed by Cullen Hoback, best known for his work on Q: Into the Storm. The film provides a thorough exploration of Bitcoin’s origins, featuring interviews with developers, early adopters, and financial experts, while also delving into the mystery surrounding the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

In a surprising twist, Money Electric suggests that software developer Peter Todd could be the elusive Nakamoto. Through a series of interviews, historical data, and expert analysis, the documentary presents a case that has left many questioning the long-standing enigma of Bitcoin’s creator. Todd, who has played a pivotal and controversial role in Bitcoin’s development, is portrayed as a possible key figure behind the pseudonym.
Despite the film’s assertions, Todd has repeatedly denied being Nakamoto. In a statement to Coindesk reporters Marc Hochstein and Cheyenne Ligon, Todd stated, “Of course I’m not Satoshi.” Supporting this, Nic Carter, founding partner of Castle Island Ventures, told Politico that he doesn’t believe Todd is the creator of Bitcoin, adding further skepticism to the documentary’s claims.
While Money Electric leaves viewers with new theories to consider, the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains one of the cryptocurrency world’s most enduring mysteries.
